Tchornobog / Abyssal

Ippocalyptica I dislike splits that are disparate mishmashes of thematically and structurally distinct works, but very much appreciate when bands actually work together on their respective parts of the album, the latter being the case on this excellent split. Both bands bring their technical and dissonant death/black metal A-game, with Tchornobog producing the more unsettling track and Abyssal the more pummelling one (and probably their best work since Veil of Transcendence). Best split of 2022? Yes. Favorite track: Abyssal - Antechamber of the Wakeless Mind.

Camelus Dromedarius Tchnornobog's half of this split is a continuation of his 2016 LP and is great. Abyssal's contribution to this split however is dazzling, spectacular, and nothing short of the best song of the year. Like others have said, this is their best writing yet and I cannot get enough of it. Favorite track: Abyssal - Antechamber of the Wakeless Mind.

YomaBarr Abyssal, my sweet Antikatastaseis Abyssal! Probably the best written song they've ever done.

Limited to (???) -- these will be numbered by vomit

Those fast enough to obtain the last utterance in around known as BLACK LIBATION COMPLETE in 2019 should have a fairly good idea of what to expect from yet another one of these vile packages.

These will be limited to (???) and are hand-crafted from top-to-bottom on 12x8/10-12"" boards that will be fully painted and vomited upon made from recycled black boards. Details below:

A 12-inch-by-8-10-12-inch (depending on materials) foamboard panel, hand-painted, unique, and onto it , a pasted photo of Markov The Vessel performing a Libation Ritual for the Tchornobog. The photo will depict the vomit process showing what happened on the very same board that, if you dare, will hold. Sealed and contained, the vomit rests and watches you, fully painted by MS also.

Each photo will depict a different Libation than all others before it. The puke shall fall onto the initials of all who contributed to the recordings of Tchornobog - The Vomiting Choir, and of course every hand-painting will be different, therefore -- EACH PACKAGE IS UNIQUE!

    The contents also include:

    - Tchornobog / Abyssal LP Sleeve
    - Tchornobog / Abyssal - LP (color chosen at random)
    - Inner sleeve with credits, notes and liners
    - Artist note depicting the Libation Process and what it can mean.
    - equipped in special purple or painted clear polybags (depending on materials)

Small note: I create all of these by hand by myself with little to no help. The last time I made 78 of these packages, it was a truly exhausting feat that took forever and resulted in some shipping delays. These take WEEKS to make.

PS: This will be a heavy item so my apologies to anyone not in the US for the shipping cost, it cannot be helped.

Thank you for reading and your consideration, and thank you to everyone who has supported my painting and vomit projects thus far!

  • TCHORNOBOG // GARTWORX ART // -- "V'HORI TAM LYITYUCHE OKO" Live 18x24" vomit painting

During the Tchornobog show on 4.2.23 in STHELL, MISSOURI which had 6 performers on stage including myself, a vomit libation was made in a painting bowl and for the 45 minute set, the painter GARTWORX used acrylic, vomit, and dark essences to paint the "V'HORI TAM LYITYUCHE OKO" painting, also completed in 45 minutes. This was not our first and certainly not our last live painting collaboration with artists we hold in high regard.

On 4.2.23, a significant show was held in St. Louis for Tchornobog, Blackwell, and New Obsessions. Dyakoyu Thank You to everyone who came out and made our send off as special as possible (really!)

We are happy to offer this original painting, which will be sent in a frame-able art form, to the correct home, this Bandcamp friday. Proceeds equally benefit all artists involved. No prints will be made.

NOTE: All orders will ship around 4/10/23 as we are currently in the middle of our trek back to the Oregon coast, where a new, yet familiar album-writing era will begin again. Thank you for your patience!

More Info:
4 years in the making.

When we toured with Abyssal and Tchornobog in 2019, we had already written most of the material, since about 2018. It goes without saying that we are relieved to finally be able to start showing you this material.

In this chapter of 24 minutes inside Tchornobog's maw communicating with the human body, you will find one of the most ambitious collaborations I've been a part of. I worked with an outstanding team of musicians and producers from all over the world to bring a deeply personal material alive within the black and death metal sound. Alongside Abyssal, a few talented Icelanders, and longtime collaborators, The Vomiting Choir also features recorded samples of many willing individuals purging and vomiting, which were sent to us to make The Vomiting Choir an aural reality. My goal in this, the longest Tchornobog song to date, was to make a thorough journey into the human body through an abstract lens and telekinetic speech guided by the Tchornobog.

Alongside two bass players on the Tchornobog side, the collaborative split features motifs present on both songs which Abyssal and I worked on to create even further cohesion. The release also features the same drummer on both sides, Ragnar Sverrisson!

Whenever I work on something as dark sounding as this, my natural instinct is to add a significant amount of optimism and awareness to balance the moods, and whether or not I achieved this, or have the audio match any of the above descriptions is ultimately up to you, the listener. Fall into the new chapter of this universe and let your senses take over. Thank you so much to everyone listening!

You will find me between crevices bearing sicknesses and health,
Markov Soroka

Lupus Lounge writes:

Any track opening with a multi-layered recording of a number of vomiting sessions is bound to continue on the darker side of the musical spectrum. The epic song 'The Vomiting Choir' delivers 24:08 minutes that form a descending spiral into a bottomless pit filled with a mostly dissonant sonic miasma of pure negativity and surprising complexity.

TCHORNOBOG continue down different paths that lead from their assumed position on the crossroads of death, doom, and black metal. Friends of THE RUINS OF BEVERAST and ULCERATE will quite likely recognise the general direction, but the American outfit from Portland, Oregon is charting a course of their very own through these extremely dark musical waters. Those who sail in his wake, might also encounter the ghost of early MOTÖRPSYCHO among many other wondrous encounters.

TCHORNOBOG were called into existence by Ukrainian-born multi-instrumentalist Markov Soroka, who distilled the band out of another project under the name ETERNIUM (2011-2014) in the year 2014. Soroka is also known for their other projects AUREOLE, DROWN, and KRUKH.

The Ukrainian name TCHORNOBOG is based on an assumed western Slavonic deity, of whom their is little evidence beyond a note in the "Chronica Slavorum" from the German chronicler Helmold von Bosau that was penned in the 12th century and later copied and embellished. Also spelled, among many other versions, Czarnobóg or Czorneboh with the meaning "Black God", this supposed bringer of misfortune and ill-luck even made it as Czernobog into Neil Gaimans book "American Gods" and its subsequent TV-adaption.

A self-titled debut full-length "Tchornobog" was finally released to critical acclaim in 2017 and later reissued worldwide by Lupus Lounge.

Currently, Markov Soroka is working on a sophomore TCHORNOBOG album. As a first taste of the sonic darkness ahead, we may all chime in with 'The Vomiting Choir' on the split with ABYSSAL.
